Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose me as your child’s provider?

As a nurse practitioner and someone who has been living with type 1 diabetes since age 3, I understand the challenges and frustrations you may face as a parent or caregiver. I've experienced the relentless demands of blood sugar management and the disheartening moments of waning motivation.

I'm here to offer you a unique blend of empathy and expertise. I've not only lived with diabetes but also dedicated my education to understanding and managing it effectively. My personal experience, coupled with my nursing background, gives me a deep insight into the condition's complexities and nuances.

I have navigated the highs and lows, the triumphs and struggles, gaining an intimate understanding of the condition's impact on daily life.

Together, we'll partner to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to manage your child's diabetes. I'll be your guide, listener, and supporter, helping your child thrive.

How can I consult if I’m not local?

I am currently licensed in the following states: Florida and Maryland. More to come soon!

All consultations are done virtually over secure video and messaging platforms.

Is virtual care just as effective as in-person care for treating chronic diseases in children?

Yes. Numerous studies have found virtual care to be just as effective as in-person care for the ongoing management of chronic conditions like diabetes. While following established clinical practice guidelines, I personally customize treatment plans for each patient. I combine video visits with remote monitoring technology to closely track health metrics in between appointments. This model of care leads to better outcomes and fewer complications. Your child gets specialized care from the comfort of your home.

How often will we interact or have sessions?

Apart from the initial consultation, we have scheduled appointments every three months. However, I understand that questions and challenges can arise in between, so I also offer on-demand consultations for those moments. I schedule more frequent virtual check-ins and follow-up meetings anytime there are needed changes to your child's treatment regimen or insulin therapy to ensure they are tolerating and adhering to adjustments.

All of our sessions are conducted via a secure video platform. Upon scheduling an appointment, you'll receive a link to join the meeting. It's designed to be convenient, allowing you and your child to engage from the comfort of your home.

Will there be any communication with your child’s other care providers and specialists?

Absolutely. With your permission, I will consult with your child’s healthcare team. I can coordinate care, share recommendations, and ensure we provide aligned guidance.

What about insurance coverage?

While I don't currently directly accept or bill insurance carriers, I can provide you with a superbill containing all the necessary information for you to submit a claim for reimbursement from your insurance provider. Many insurance plans offer reimbursement for out-of-network virtual care services.

What if your child needs to go to the ER or be admitted?

Urgent medical situations can come up even with close monitoring and management.

I'm available to collaborate with the inpatient hospitalist/care team to provide comprehensive details regarding your child's diabetes treatment plan and offer recommendations for ongoing care. Additionally, I can conduct video visits with you and your child during their hospital stay to extend further support.

Once discharged, you will schedule a prompt virtual follow-up appointment to touch base and adjust their care plan if needed. Maintaining open communication between all of your child's healthcare providers ensures seamless, collaborative care.

How will this save you money?

Virtual care services can offer significant cost savings. You avoid paying for travel and taking time off work to attend appointments. There are no copays or facility fees. Virtual appointments are often longer than in-person visits at the same cost, allowing more time to address your child's full needs.

With the comprehensive care and education I provide, your child can experience fewer missed school days, reduced ER visits, and minimized hospitalizations, ultimately lowering the costs associated with missed work and medical bills. Virtual care offers convenience and leads to improved health outcomes for your child.

Are there any hidden fees?

Nope! There are no copays or additional surprise costs. I encourage ongoing communication between visits at no extra cost. There are no fees or penalties for canceling your membership at any time. I understand your needs may change.

What’s the next step?

I offer a complimentary 5-minute consultation. This will give you an opportunity to meet me, learn more about my approach to care, and ask any questions you may have.

If our initial consultation confirms a good fit, I offer an extensive initial consultation to gain a thorough understanding of you and your child's needs. Throughout this process, I provide unwavering support, address any questions you may have, and collaborate with you to create a personalized care plan that aligns with your child's unique needs. My approach is deeply rooted in compassion, ensuring that you and your child feel understood, supported, and empowered throughout this journey. Following the initial visit, there is a monthly membership that encompasses quarterly scheduled visits, regular check-ins to monitor progress and address any changes, phone calls, text messaging, and email communication, all without the worry of cancellation fees.

Ultimately, the decision of who to choose to manage your child’s diabetes is a personal one. However, I believe that my personal experience with T1D and my expertise in diabetes care make me a uniquely qualified provider for children with T1D.
